Providing an inclusive experience to website visitors
In 2021, Central London Community Healthcare (CLCH) published it’s Promoting Equality and Tackling Inequality strategy, outlining how the Trust planned to develop and sustain a culture of equality and fairness over the next five years. One of the strategy’s four campaigns aims for equal access to services in terms of protected characteristics.
To support our overarching strategy and this campaign aim, CLCH has considered how it can provide an inclusive online experience to enable visitors to its website to access online content and services barrier-free.
Populations that lack the tools they need to adequately understand or communicate online are at a significant disadvantage. Being able to offer an inclusive experience is essential to support an estimated 20% of the population who may encounter barriers when exploring websites due to having a disability, learning difficulty, visual impairment or if they speak English as a second language.
To address this, CLCH has installed the use of Recite Me assistive technology onto its website, to support visitors to access a wide range of accessibility and language support tools to customise their digital experience.
The Recite Me assistive toolbar on the CLCH website includes screen reading functionality, multiple reading aids, customisable styling options an on-demand live translation feature.
James Benson, CLCH Interim Chief Executive, commented: “CLCH is committed to ensuring all patients and service users can access information and services in a way that best meets their individual needs.
“Access to services is a key component of our Promoting Equality and Tackling Inequality strategy. Providing Recite Me’s innovative assistive technology across our website is one of the ways we can help to achieve this. It’s wonderful to be able to increase effective communication for all.”
