Our bladder and bowel specialist team provides a wealth of information, support and advice using assessments and specialist knowledge to treat or manage your bladder and bowel problem.

We provide support and advice for a wide range of issues relating to the bladder and bowel, some of what we specialise in include:

  • Bladder Dysfunction
  • Bowel Dysfunction
  • Incontinence products, including containment products and sheaths
  • Intermittent self-catheterisation
  • Catheter advice/support for healthcare professionals

This service is for:

  • Patients who are 18 years+
  • Patients who have a bladder and/or bowel dysfunction
  • Patients living or registered with a GP in West Hertfordshire

For your referral to be accepted, all of the above must apply.

If you are a parent and require the Children’s Continence Team, you can call them on 01923 470680 or email on hct.continencecyp@nhs.net

We can assess you at one of our clinics across West Hertfordshire, over the phone or at your home depending on your individual needs.

We currently have clinics at Elstree Way Clinic in Borehamwood, The Marlowes Health Centre in Hemel Hempstead and The Avenue Clinic in Watford.

We do provide a translator service, should you require this service please advise us as soon as possible to avoid a delay in offering you an appointment.

Depending on your bladder and bowel problem, you may need to use incontinence products.

Following an assessment, if clinically appropriate we may be able to help supply these.

The NHS can only contribute to your supply and if you require more than the maximum number of products that we can provide, the rest will need to be self-funded.

We work closely with Tena (Essity) who are the company that provide the products. We only prescribe a set selection of Tena products and the products available to you will be outlined during your appointment.

If you are already receiving Tena products and need to re-order or to speak to Tena directly you can contact them on 0345 741 3643.

We will only accept referrals from:

  • GPs
  • District nurses
  • Health visitors
  • Social services
  • Other healthcare professionals
  • Care homes

If you require a referral form, please email us on clcht.westherts.bladderandbowel@nhs.net and we would be happy to provide you with one.

There may be a time where we will have to discharge you, some of our reasons for discharge are listed below:

  • Completion of treatment
  • One did not attend (DNA)
  • Two rescheduled or cancelled appointments
  • No response to a letter requiring action
  • At patient's request

Should you be discharged and still require our services we would be happy to accept a new referral from a health professional.

If you are not already a patient with us, please contact your GP and ask for a referral onto our service otherwise we will be unable to discuss your problem with you.
