World Religion Day: “As a deacon, I live out my Christian values by promoting love, service and stewardship within the community"
It’s World Religion Day on Sunday 19 January, a day set aside for people to celebrate the many faiths and religions in the world. Here at CLCH, we take pride in the diversity within our community, which includes individuals from various religious traditions, beliefs, and those without religious affiliation. Locality Lead Manager for Hammersmith and Fulham, Jo Dang (Choji-Davou) tells us a little bit more about being a member of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN UK) for 11 years.
Jo was born in Nigeria. She started her career 46 years ago and worked as a staff nurse in Nigeria. She arrived in the UK in 1990 and worked at Central Middlesex Hospital before joining CLCH in 1997.
“My involvement as a deacon and a Trustee Board member has been a fulfilling journey of faith and service. As a deacon, I take on the responsibility of supporting the pastoral team, assisting in the spiritual needs of the congregation, and helping to facilitate church services and community outreach programs as well actively engage with church members, listen to their concerns, and foster a sense of community and belonging. We organise programs like, family fun days, Christmas carols, opening the church for the local community for tea and coffee, evangelism in the community and summer barbeques for our community amongst others. My role allows me to live out my Christian values by promoting love, service, and stewardship within our church and beyond. It is a privilege to be part of an organisation that aims to make a positive impact in the lives of others, and I am continually inspired by the commitment of my fellow Christian members within the church.”
As a deacon and board member of the Church of Christ in Nations, Jo not only leads but also lives her faith with unwavering dedication. From the sanctuary of her home, he engages wholeheartedly in online prayer meetings every Tuesday, discipleship classes on Thursdays, and Bible study sessions every Friday, embodying a life devoted to spiritual growth.
Jo candidly discloses that she is a 'born-again Christian' describing her faith as a journey of welcoming Jesus Christ into her life and nurturing a deeply personal relationship with him.
John 3:16 in the Bible stands as a powerful declaration of God’s immense love for the world: 'For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
