Refurbished rehabilitation unit opens at Edgware Community Hospital

Published: 19th December 2024

This month CLCH opened a newly refurbished unit for patients receiving rehabilitation, often after a long hospital stay or mobility difficulties following a fall or a stroke. The care and rehabilitation delivered in this space, now called Edgware Community Rehabilitation Unit, enables patients on their journey to recovery in the comfort of their own home.

At Edgware Community Hospital, the unit, formerly known as Ruby Ward, was refurbished earlier this year and patients cared for in Jade Ward (also based in Edgware Community Hospital) were moved into the refurbished space on 2 December. Patients can now enjoy additional ensuite bathrooms and an improved patient and family lounge and kitchen, to encourage more independent activities, ready for their return home.

The opening event was hosted by Chief Executive, James Benson and K Isaac, North Central Divisional Director of Operations along with more members of the executive leadership team. Patients, carers, and families came together to celebrate the new unit, with a local choir kicking off some of the festivities.

Louise Archer, Head of Clinical In Patient and Stroke Services, said:

“At CLCH our key aim is to get our communities back home, living independently, where they want to be.

“We also want our communities to feel at home while at the unit and these renovations have delivered a better socialising space for family visits and facilities that support more independent activity - like the important task of making a cup of tea!

“We look forward to opening the new gym early next year as an extension to the ward, supporting personalised and group therapy and exercise sessions.”
