Healthcare Assistant, Teodor Ghiban awarded Cavell Star Award
Teodor Ghiban, Healthcare Assistant in the Hertfordshire Division has been awarded a prestigious national nursing award in recognition of his unwavering support for his colleagues and outstanding contribution to the Delegation of Insulin Administration project, led by NHS England.
The Delegation of Insulin Administration project is developed to provide more capacity to trained community healthcare workers who administer insulin to patients. Teodor was trained to identify and escalate patient concerns, helping to alleviate pressure on his team. This meant that patients received their treatment and medications on time, without having to wait for a qualified nurse.
Teodor who works in the Planned Care team was given the award in a surprise presentation by his team on 12 April, after he was nominated by Lesley Mills, Consultant Nurse and Lead for the Delegation of Insulin Project at Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
On the day, the team welcomed Margaret Khumalo, Community Nurse Fellow at NHS England (pictured to the right), who presented the prestigious award on behalf of Lesley. She said: “It was such an honour to represent team CNO. Teodor truly deserved the award, and it is not difficult to see why he is such a deserving winner of the award.”
Following the event, Lesley also praised Teodor. She said: "Well done again Teodor and thank you for being such an ‘inspiration’ to others.”
Nicola Scoffin, Practice Development Nurse, and Jennifer Chady, Locality Manager and Teodor's manager explained why he is a worthy winner.
“He is a role model within his team for so many reasons. He encourages the staff and always strives to do his best which is all we could ask of him. Teodor was in the first cohort of staff to complete the training for CLCH. His support for the nurses is admirable and when he expressed an interest to complete the insulin administration delegation training, we knew he would excel. He is a bright shining star, fearlessly striving to provide patients the best care possible. We are so proud of him and believe this award is really well deserved for all of his selfless work.”
Reacting to the award, Teodor said: “I feel very proud and humbled to have received a Cavell Star Award, it means a lot to have my work recognised and celebrated. I am lucky enough to be part of an incredible team and I strongly value the support and encouragement I have received.”
Teodor was presented with a Cavell Star medal pack and a personalised cake from his team and colleagues from across the service.
