Following a formal and open recruitment process led by the CLCH Board, we are pleased to announce that Dr Nicola Kemp has been appointed as the trust’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO).

Dr Kemp has worked at CLCH since 2019, initially joining as Divisional Medical Director for the trust’s Hertfordshire division before taking up the post of Deputy Medical Director. She has been Acting Medical Director since July 2022.

Alongside her CLCH roles, Dr Kemp is a practising GP, works as a Senior Appraiser for the NHS England East of England region and is an elected member of the BMA Committee of Medical Managers.

Prior to joining CLCH, she held a number of senior leadership roles, including as a GP Federation Director, a CCG Transformation Lead and as an executive member of the Sessional GP Committee at the British Medical Association. In addition, she is a Health Foundation fellow, having undertaken their Generation Q Fellowship 2019-2021 during which she obtained a Masters in Leadership and Quality Improvement.

Dr Kemp said: “I am proud and excited to be taking on the role of Chief Medical Officer at CLCH, the country’s largest provider of community healthcare services.

“I am passionate about the value of caring for patients closer to and in their homes and using the knowledge we have from being embedded in the communities we serve to help improve outcomes and experience for all. I am looking forward to working with our fantastic CLCH teams across our wide footprint and developing collaborative relationships with partners across the four Integrated Care Systems we are part of.”

James Benson, Interim CEO, said: “Following a national recruitment campaign I am so pleased that one of our own colleagues will join the Board as the new Chief Medical Officer.

“Dr Kemp displayed a clear understanding during the recruitment process of how we can improve the delivery of services, her commitment to the wellbeing and development of our colleagues and the values of the trust.”

Dr Kemp will commence her CMO role in October.
