Brent Health Matters shortlisted for Innovate Awards 2023

Published: 21st September 2023

We are delighted to announce that our Brent Health Matters (BHM) teams from our Outer North West division have been shortlisted for an Innovate Award.

The Innovate awards celebrate excellence in innovation in health and care, showcasing those teams, organisations and health and care systems leading the way in positive change.

Our Brent Health Matters teams, which include our partners Brent Council and various Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) organisations, have been shortlisted in the ‘Innovation Helping Address Health Inequalities’ category for the work they are doing to tackle health inequalities in Brent.

The teams have been building a network of community champions, organisations, community groups and residents which has been central to understanding local issues, priorities and co-producing local action plans. With over 40 champions, 400+ VCS organisations, community groups and leaders representing diverse backgrounds, the BHM teams deliver over 140 health and wellbeing events accessed by 7,022 people in factories, religious, cultural, community and public spaces.

This has allowed BHM to reach groups that face the most barriers accessing support and services, including night shift factory workers, people not registered with a GP, minority groups, homeless people, and those with disabilities.

Out of the 5,986 people who have had health checks at the event, some were referred onto their GP, and more were diagnosed as hypertensive, highlighting how BHM is identifying unmet needs. Moreover, 1,399 attendees have engaged with mental health services at events, contributing to a 40 per cent increase in referrals to Brent mental health since 2020.

Andre Nolan, Brent Health Matters Clinical Team Lead, said:

“I am incredibly proud of the teams and the work that everyone is doing to help make a difference to the communities we serve.

"It is fantastic to see the improvements that the team have made, and continue to make, to help reduce that barrier to services.”

The awards ceremony will take place today (21 September 2023). Good luck to Brent Health Matters!
