Our Barnet community diabetes service working in partnership with the Royal Free London now offers a specialised multi-disciplinary service to its patients.

Suraiya Kholil, Highly specialist diabetes nurse explained the benefits of this service saying, "Patients will be treated in the most appropriate care setting and referral pathways will be clear. The service will work closer with practices by offering support either virtually via an advice line or through practice visits. Clinicians will also receive specialised training to make sure they are up-to-date with their skills and knowledge. This will make for a more beneficial patient service."

The team will be supported by consultants from the Royal Free London led by Dr Miranda Rosenthal who said, "I'm really excited about the opportunity to work in partnership with CLCH to augment diabetes services in Barnet. We aim to provide high quality diabetes care in the community with improved outcomes and patient experience."

The team will comprise of diabetes specialist nurses, diabetes specialist dietitians, healthcare support workers, GP clinical champions and a specialist podiatrist to deal with complex foot problems. Currently, patients can only be referred by GPs and district nursing services.
