Continence and stoma

It offers a comprehensive range of support to help people self-manage and remain independent, or to adapt and modify their lifestyles to adjust to increasing dependence. Housebound patients are seen by district nurses in the first instance.

This service is for:

  • Patients 18 years and over
  • Living or registered with a GP in Barnet, Kensington & Chelsea, Merton and Wandsworth

Who can refer:

  • GPs
  • District nurses
  • Health visitors
  • Social services
  • Other healthcare professionals
  • Patients can also self-refer

Barnet has a Stoma Nurse Specialist service for any patient who has had a stoma formation.
Home visits are available.

Kensington and Chelsea has a women’s health physiotherapist who works in the team also.

Our Wandsworth continence service is currently for housebound patients and nursing and residential home patients with complex continence and catheter problems.

Referral information

This information is for GPs and other healthcare professionals who refer patients to our adult continence teams.

Referral criteria:


  • Patients 18 and over
  • Bladder and/or bowel dysfunction
  • Living or registered with a GP in Barnet, Kensington & Chelsea, Merton and Wandsworth

Our continence clinics are held Monday to Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm at various locations. No clinics are held on weekends and bank holidays.

Discharge criteria for our continence service

  • Completion of treatment
  • One did not attend (DNA)
  • Two failed or missed appointments
  • No response to letter offering appointment and subsequent follow up appointments
  • At patient's request
