The Children's Community Nursing Service are a team of Children’s Nurses who provide nursing care to children living in Brent who have acute or long-term health needs. We deliver nursing care to children and young people between the ages of 0 and 18 years (or 19 if attending a Special School).

We do this by providing hands on clinical care e.g. blood tests, giving chemotherapy, passing nasogastric feeding tubes, giving intravenous antibiotics, monitoring oxygen etc., as well as teaching and supporting parents and other care givers, such as extended family and school staff.

Support also includes the ordering and supplying of equipment necessary for the child and liaising closely with other professionals involved with the child and family.

The Children’s Asthma Nursing Service is an extension of the Children's Community Nursing Service.

The Asthma service provides asthma reviews to children living in Brent who have been referred. This service is available to children and young people between the ages of 0 and 18 years (or 19 if attending a Special School).

Referrals come from GP’s, A&E, consultants, schools, school nurse’s and parent/carer (if the child has been seen/reviewed within the last year). Within the reviews, all families will complete an Asthma Control Test and will be sent an Asthma Action Plan in the post.

Children and young people, schools, school nurse’s GP surgery and A&E are just a few of the training which is offered by the Asthma Nursing Service.

We accept referrals from:

  • local hospitals
  • tertiary centres
  • accident and emergency departments
  • GPs
  • schools
  • parents.

Routine referrals will be sent directly to the Children's Community team.
