RCN Rising Star award winners: Saffi and Olasubomi

Congratulations to Saffi Nantwi, Specialist Community Public Health Nurse and Olasubomi Oworu, Nurse who have both been honoured with a prestigious Rising Star award by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN).

Part of RCN celebrations to mark Black History Month 2024, the Rising Star awards recognises nursing staff from London’s Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic communities who’ve made an outstanding contribution to the health and care of Londoners. 

This year, 22 nursing staff across London were honoured with a Rising Star award and we are proud that we had not one but two staff members recognised for their innovation, compassion, and commitment to delivering first-class patient care.

Saffi’s nomination:

“Saffi has continued to demonstrate her professionalism and excellent communication skills in practice when she has had to overcome challenging situations. She has proved her passion towards being an effective School Nurse by ensuring her experiences within practice create an excellent foundation for her to continue providing a quality service once she has qualified. She has been proactive in ensuring her team are aware of her learning needs and ensures she maximises her opportunities for learning.  Without having experience of the school nursing role prior she continues to move out her comfort zone and practice effectively with the aims of improving the experiences of the schools, teachers, students, and their families.

“Saffi as a student is an excellent role model and had demonstrated compassionate leadership qualities. The team are excited to see how much she will achieve when she qualifies and will not be surprised to see her at an executive level in the very near future.”

Olasubomi’s nomination:

“In Ola's duties she has consistently demonstrated exceptional empathy toward her patients care. Ola's possesses a unique ability to inspire her team in facing many challenging because of staffing issues, there are nothing too much for her to support her team, she is deeply committed to the profession. When she finished her nursing associate training, and she took another leap to top up her career by embarking of the nursing degree top up. Her committed to the team and the patients that she cares about is remarkable, she has received a lot of excellent feedback in term of quality of care to patient in the community that we served. In facing many challenging Ola’s during course work, placement and supporting her team whenever she is around, she has proved that her passion and committed is zero to none.”
