Junior Doctors industrial action in April

Published: 3rd April 2023

The BMA and HCSA has announced a second round of strike action for Junior Doctors.  This is set to run for 96 hours from 06.59am on Tuesday 11 April to 06.59am on Saturday 15 April.

Junior Doctors are qualified doctors undertaking clinical postgraduate training.

The previous 72-hour strike action by junior doctors in March saw 175,000 hospital appointments disrupted across the country. This second round of action is for a longer period and comes at a time when higher than usual levels of staff are on annual leave due to school Easter holidays and therefore further disruption to services may be experienced.

Please be assured, however, that the safety of our patients is always our top priority and we are working hard to put plans in place to ensure minimal impact on the quality and the timeliness of the care you, your relative, or someone you care for receives over these days.

All services remain open.  Please attend any appointments you have. We will contact you if your appointment needs to be rescheduled.

Regardless of any strike action taking place, it is important that people who need urgent medical care continue to come forward. If you need medical help or advice, or you’re unsure what to do, go to NHS 111 online unless it is a life-threatening emergency when you should still call 999.

Over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend (7-10 April), some GP surgeries and pharmacies may be closed or working reduced hours so it is important to plan ahead for your healthcare needs during this time. Please remember to order any required repeat prescriptions early and ensure you have adequate supplies of medication for any existing health conditions.
