CLCH's Children's Service wins prestigious Nursing Times Award!
Congratulations to our Children's Service in the Inner North West division who have won a prestigious Nursing Times Award in the Children's Services category.
The awards bring together the nursing community to shine a light on the brightest talent in the profession and recognise those making nursing innovative, patient-focused and inclusive.
The nomination ‘Kids speak up – an educational animation’ submitted by Lisa Canade, School Nurse, reflects the fantastic effect an animation using the voice of the child has on the learning and knowledge of so many people.
This initiative aims to create animated tools that highlight the voices and experiences of children and fostering peer empathy and understanding.
Lisa has worked closely and in collaboration with children from a primary school that the service supports to create two animation videos which focus on Type 1 diabetes and allergies.
These videos are fantastic resources for children of primary school age to gain an understanding of their peers needs and enhance general knowledge of the conditions. It helps to encourage empathy and understanding by enabling children to gain a greater perspective of the impact it has on people’s daily lives.
The Nursing Times Awards judges welcomed the direct collaboration with young people on healthcare and said it demonstrates how creativity can amplify the voices of children in an inclusive way that could be transferable to many other areas. They also said it has potential to be included in the school national curriculum.
Lisa said: “For me, it was about not only educating but creating a level of empathy amongst children and understanding each other’s needs. It shows the power of lived experience in health education.”
Huge congratulations to the service and everyone involved!
