Mayor visits Tooting Family Hub: a new beacon of community support
Today (Tuesday 25 March) marked the grand opening of the Tooting Family Hub, a welcoming community space launched by Wandsworth Borough Council. This haven is designed to bring families together while providing crucial health and welfare support. The launch event was attended by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, alongside the Mayor of Wandsworth, Councillor Sana Jafir, and the MP for Tooting, Dr Rosena Allin-Khan.
At the heart of the new hub is the CLCH Wandsworth 0-19 Service, which plays a vital role in promoting the well-being of children from birth to adolescence. Health visitors within the service help babies develop crucial social, physical, and mental skills, ensuring they have the best start in life. Once children reach school age, the service’s school nurses step in to provide health support, coordinate care plans, and offer preventive screenings to keep young Londoners thriving. During the launch event, members of the 0-19 team were on hand to advise attendees about the invaluable services they offer, including health reviews and drop-in child health clinics.
A key highlight of the event was the baby boxes, an innovative initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable families give their children the best start in life. Developed with the expertise of Wandsworth’s health visiting teams and funded by Wandsworth Council, these baby boxes provide essential items to ensure children have the best possible start in life. While initially only available to young mothers up to the age of 25, the initiative is now expanding to include all families receiving benefits, further broadening its reach and impact.
Mayor Sadiq Khan praised the Tooting Family Hub as a “crucial one-stop shop,” offering an array of services from housing support to healthcare advice. He emphasised how the hub will help ensure every family in London receives the support they need to thrive.
The Tooting Family Hub, and CLCH's role within it, represents an inspiring step forward to a connected community.
