Barnet wins big at the NCL Valued Awards

Published: 3rd October 2023

The NCL (North Central London) Valued Awards is an annual event organised by the North Central London Training Hub. The awards recognise the outstanding work of teams and organisations that have made a real difference to their staff or primary and social care in general.

Paige Humphreys (Edgware Walk-in Centre Reception Manager), Dilesh Tanna (Volunteer and Patient Experience Representative), and the rest of the Edgware Walk-in Centre reception team, were shortlisted for their work in improving access to community services for people with disabilities, after having been nominated by colleague and Programme Manager for Integration & Population Health, Jane Williams. Since March the team have been working to implement the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Scheme at sites in North Central London, starting with Edgware Community Hospital. The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower can be worn as a lanyard or badge and prompts staff and surrounding communities that an individual, who may not appear to have a disability, needs more time, space or support in certain situations. Staff at Barnet successfully rolled out training for their colleagues to understand how to respond to someone wearing the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower, and educated patients and staff alike on the benefits of wearing one, should they have a non-visible condition.

The team were invited to the awards breakfast at Regent's University in North London last Wednesday (27 September) and came away having won in the category for Inclusivity! Congratulations!
