As your baby grows their sleep will change and while the risks of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) commonly known as Cot death reduces as your child gets older its still important to think about their sleep environment and how you can keep them safe while they sleep .

Sleep advice 

Your baby/child’s sleep plays an important part in their development. It is common for toddlers and young children to experience sleep difficulties and this can become a source of stress for tired parents. Here you can find information on how much sleep your child needs, common sleep problems and how to help your child sleep better.

As soon as your baby’s teeth start to come through it’s time to start brushing them. This will help your baby to get used to brushing their teeth and helps avoid them having problems with their teeth as they get older. It’s important to brush your child’s teeth for them until they are at least 7 years old to make sure they are thoroughly cleaned.

It’s also important to start taking them to the dentist when you go so that the dentist can look at their teeth and they get used to going to the dentist.

Immunisations also known as vaccinations are important for protecting your baby/child against serious infectious diseases. The Institute of health visiting have also developed helpful resources for you on Childhood immunisations 

The Department of Health recommends that all children ages 6 months to 5 years are given vitamin supplements containing vitamins A, C and D every day.

Families who are entitled to Healthy Start can receive free vitamin drops.
