Stepping back in: Georgia Hylton’s journey back to podiatry

Published: 3rd March 2026

Returning to practice offers experienced clinicians the chance to bring their skills back to the NHS with confidence. At CLCH, the Return to Practice (RtP) pathway supports Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered allied health professionals to refresh their knowledge, rebuild confidence and successfully regain registration. CLCH recognises that returners bring valuable experience and provides structured supervision, flexible routes and practical support throughout the process.

Georgia Hylton’s journey back into podiatry highlights the impact of that support. After time away from the profession, she searched online for ways to return and found information through NHS England, which connected her with trusts accepting returners.

“I completed some of my student placements with CLCH and really liked the work atmosphere, so I was excited to apply.”

Through the RtP pathway, Georgia was able to work as a band 4 therapy assistant while completing her required hours, giving her financial stability as she rebuilt her practice. The flexibility to complete 30 to 60 days full-time or part-time made the transition manageable.

“CLCH provided so much support during my return to practice, from flexible working options to supportive supervisors who understood what it feels like to step back into clinical work. I felt encouraged every step of the way, which made such a difference to my confidence.”

Now working as a community podiatrist, Georgia plays a vital preventative role, relieving pain, maintaining mobility and preventing serious complications linked to long-term conditions. She works closely with GPs, district nurses and hospital specialists to keep patients well at home.

“Community care matters because it improves quality of life and helps prevent hospital admissions before issues become more serious.”

By investing in returners like Georgia, CLCH is not only strengthening its workforce, it is bringing invaluable experience back into community care, where it makes a tangible difference to patients every single day.
