South Asian Heritage Month 2026 - Our values in action

Published: 16th July 2026

South Asian Heritage Month (SAHM), celebrated each year is an opportunity to recognise, celebrate and learn about the history, cultures and contributions of South Asian communities. This year’s theme, “Unity in Diversity,” reminds us that while we all have different backgrounds and experiences, it is those differences that make us stronger together.

As part of our South Asian Heritage Month celebrations, we’ve been speaking to colleagues from across the Trust about the new corporate values and asking one simple question:

Which of the Trust values resonates with you the most, and why?

The four corporate values are:

  • Accountability – taking ownership of our actions, being open and learning from our experiences.
  • Inclusion – respecting differences, listening to every voice and creating a sense of belonging for colleagues and patients.
  • Compassion – showing kindness, empathy and understanding, while building trusted relationships and reducing health inequalities.
  • Empowerment – supporting patients to be involved in their care and encouraging colleagues to learn, grow and succeed together.

In the video, colleagues share which value means the most to them and how it shapes the way they work every day.

The video also features a powerful message from Ngozi Wosu, a physiotherapist from ONW division who has worked alongside South Asian colleagues for the past 10 years. She shares how learning about different cultures and religions has helped her better understand the communities she works with and deliver more personalised, compassionate care.
