Patients and staff at the Willesden Centre for Health and Care recently came together to celebrate the spirit of the Winter Olympics by hosting their own Winter Games.

The nurses and therapists in Robertson and Furness wards organised a special Winter Olympics day in the centre’s gym and occupational therapy workshop. The event gave patients the chance to take part in a range of fun and adapted sporting activities.

The event ended with a closing ceremony where participants were awarded certificates and medals to recognise their efforts and achievements. Staff also joined in the fun with a tug-of-war contest between therapy and nursing teams.

Gajan Sivarajah, Rehab Assistant and the lead olympic official said:

“It was a great success and a fantastic experience for everyone involved. It was wonderful to see patients from Robertson and Furness engaging with one another and showing their competitive spirit throughout. A big thank you to all the staff and patients who participated and helped make the event so enjoyable. We look forward to hosting more events like this in the future.”

Samantha Howard, Divisional Director of Nursing and Therapies said:

“This is a fantastic example of how our teams create engaging and supportive environments for patients. Activities like this help people build confidence, stay active and connect with others, all of which are an important part of recovery and wellbeing.”

The day helped encourage teamwork, friendly competition and rehabilitation through activity, while bringing patients and staff together in a positive and supportive environment.
