Hertfordshire Occupational Therapist attends Royal Garden Party

Published: 19th May 2026

The annual garden party hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla recognises those who have made an outstanding contribution to public service or within their community.

Hannah Gordon, Occupational Therapist in Hertfordshire, was nominated to attend on May 6 following her win as Clinician of the Year at the 2025 CLCH Staff Awards.

She was nominated by multiple members of staff for ensuring that Occupational Therapy is not just understood but valued. She did this by collaborating with system partners and the voluntary sector to design themed weeks highlighting Occupational Therapy, running groups with patients, nursing and AHP staff.

Zabenguni Keswa said: “She removed old, ripped rugs so patients don’t trip and fall at home on discharge, she has cleaned out fridges to support a patient returning home to a healthier and cleaner environment where no family is available to do so, and so much more.

“We have had amazing dementia awareness weeks and groups, a volunteer ukulele band come and provide some much-needed musical fun and stimulation for our patients.”

Joanna Gleasure added: “She has introduced several innovative ideas onto St Peters Ward including a therapy dog which our patients love!”

After attending the event, Hannah said:

“I feel very lucky that I was able to attend the Buckingham Palace garden party. I didn’t really know what to expect and on arrival there were 2 bands on either side of the garden which took it in turns to play songs. I joined a crowd of people and realised we were all waiting for the Royal family to arrive.

The King and Queen were in attendance along with the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and for me as a proud occupational therapist I was most excited to see HRH The Princess Royal, who is the patron of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists). It was a lovely afternoon and thank you to CLCH as I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to attend if I didn’t work here.”

The event was also attended by other members of the Royal Family, including Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh.

Each year, over 30,000 guests are invited to attend the events held in the gardens of Buckingham Palace or the Palace of Holyroodhouse, giving the Royal Family a chance to speak to individuals from various backgrounds and thank them for their dedication to making a positive difference through the work they do.
