CLCH Sustainability Team shortlisted for HSJ Award
CLCH is delighted to announce that our Sustainability Team has been shortlisted for the Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards 2026 in the Towards Net Zero category.
Selected from more than 1,300 entries across the UK, CLCH earned its place among 231 shortlisted finalists. The recognition celebrates the Trust’s outstanding contribution to sustainable healthcare, specifically through its transformative project: Embedding Sustainability in Community Healthcare Through the Decarbonisation of Langley House Community Hospital.
The nominated project at Langley House Community Hospital brought together CLCH’s Sustainability, Estates and Clinical Teams to deliver a comprehensive green makeover. This included solar panels and energy-efficient LED lighting, smart sensors and an upgraded Building Management System, as well as electric vehicle (EV) charging points and expanded cycle storage.
In April 2025, we installed commercial air source heat pumps at Langley House, completely eliminating gas usage for heating and hot water at the site. These upgrades have substantially reduced carbon emissions while creating a warmer, more comfortable environment for patients and staff, supporting CLCH’s wider commitment to environmental sustainability and the NHS ambition to reach net zero carbon emissions. Similar measures have been introduced across Trust sites, helping to achieve a 15% reduction in CLCH’s NHS Carbon Footprint compared with the 2019/20 baseline.

This achievement is a testament to the dedication of our Sustainability, Estates and Clinical Teams, who continue to show that reducing our environmental impact goes hand-in-hand with delivering high-quality patient care.”
